For at least one race, the team behind the legendary Porsches of the American Le Mans Series is back with an Aston Martin.
From 2007 through 2012, the silver and red livery of Flying Lizard Motorsports was synonymous with Porsche factory racing in America. The team's days in the former American Le Mans Series are long gone, but the records speak for themselves: six class championships, eleven class wins, and an overall podium in a GT car at the 24 Hours of Daytona. The team has since been sold and spent the past decade running various GT cars for customers around the country.
Flying Lizard Motorsports has announced plans for a return to IMSA, the championship that succeeded the American Le Mans Series, for the first time since shutting down its short-lived Audi R8 LMS program in 2015. Drivers Elias Sabo and Andy Lee will make a start in an Aston Martin Vantage GT3, the car that the team currently fields in SRO GT World Challenge Americas. It is a one-off start for now, but it is the first step toward a return for a team with a rich history in the championship.
