The most veteran driver in F1 history has announced an extension with Aston Martin Aramco throughout the 2026 season. Mercedes 2025 seat open remains open
Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso announced Thursday morning that the driver would stay with the team through the 2026 season.Alonso simply put that he was dedicated to Aston Martin with a five-word memo.“I am here to stay,” Fernando Alonso said.The Spanish-born driver was one of the many rumored to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes after the seven-time world champion announced his move to Ferrari for the 2025 season.
During this time, he ventured into diverse racing events, including the Dakar Rally, where he competed and won a WEC championship and his second Indianapolis 500. He is the only driver to secure both a WEC and F1 World Championship.The two-time F1 World Champion announced his return for the 2021 season in July of 2020 with just three words, 'We Are Back.' This comeback message is still pinned to the top of his Twitter/X profile almost four years later.
