Evan Rodrigues scored twice in the third period as the Panthers denied the Oilers again in Game 2. SUNRISE, Fla. — After losing Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid invoked the hockey gods. Two days later, those pleas apparently went unanswered: The Florida Panthers controlled the third period thanks to two goals from Evan Rodrigues to post a 4-1 win and score a 2-0 series lead Monday night.
In contrast to Game 1, when the Oilers controlled much of the first two periods but couldn’t solve Bobrovsky, the Panthers had the upper hand in the opening minutes Monday. The shots were 6-0 in favor of Florida when the Oilers’ Warren Foegele laid a knee-on-knee hit on Eetu Luostarinen, resulting in a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for Foegele.
