Egg prices are on the rise once more, driven by the ongoing bird flu outbreak and increased demand during the holiday baking season.
Egg prices are rising again, nearly 38% between November 2023 and November 2024. The average price for a dozen Grade A eggs was $3.65 last month, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. The bird flu is the main cause, with the CDC reporting that about 33 million commercial egg-laying birds have been killed by the disease in 2024. Higher demand during the holiday baking season is also contributing to the price increase. Shelves are sparse in many areas despite the high cost.
