Last summer we told you about the new bus rapid transit route VIA will soon start building down San Pedro from the airport to the southside.

“To have a bigger, better bus and more frequent would just be an awesome idea," said Steven Shipman, a westside resident who rides the bus frequently. VIA’s ridership is still recovering from the pandemic. In February of 2019 it served 2.7 million riders. In February of 2023 there were only 1.8 million passengers. This year February ridership grew to 2.1 million.

“VIA Rapid service is going to help move more people faster and farther to insure they have access to education, healthcare, workforce training or the job that they're in today," Tiemann said.
