Jewett Ladon “Don” Hughes filed that suit in November, claiming the city failed to notify him of demolition plans.

Don Goff is suing in hopes of changing what he believes is bad government.DOTHAN, Ala. - The city of Dothan hopes a federal judge will dismiss a lawsuit brought by the owner of a home demolished by city crews.

However, attorneys representing the city said in a motion that Goff filed to state a claim and, even if the allegations are accurate they are insufficient to move the lawsuit forward. Attorney Wes Bell told News4 the city sent a letter to the wrong address revealing its demotion plans, and the Postal Service returned it.

According to Bell, Goff only learned that the city had torn down the uninhabited house that had fallen into bad repair when his granddaughter drove down Dusy Street last May.“Notice is sent by certified mail to the owner of the property, or to the owner of an interest in the property, or to the person last assessed for state property taxes and to mortgagees of record,” Cowper told News4 in a statement.
