Democratic strategist James Carville argues that the 'tyranny of the left' within the party is causing it to lose elections. He criticizes the party's focus on 'feeling superior' rather than winning, and points to its coastal, educated base as a major contributor to this problem.

Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville said in a podcast episode released Thursday that 'tyranny' loses elections for the Democratic Party . 'The tyranny of the left is tyranny. And not only tyranny causes people grief, it loses us elections, people,' he said on ' Politics War Room,' which he co-hosts with Al Hunt, a former reporter for the Wall Street Journal.

A substantial amount of people in the Democratic Party, who are nearly all White, would rather 'feel superior about themselves” and lose races than 'go through the trouble to do the stuff’ that’s necessary to win, according to Carville. He claims those people have also received higher levels of education and are from the coasts. And as long as that philosophy is part of the Democratic coalition, it is going to continue to cause unbelievable damage to our electoral prospects,’ he noted. 'I cannot say it any simpler than that.' The strategist provided examples of issues he feels some liberals criticize people about if they suggest alternative viewpoints. 'If you say, the border, 'we should have had something different,’ well, that makes you a racist,' Carville explained. 'If you say that we should proceed with caution on these transition surgeries and giving people the right to do whatever they want, then you’re slammed.' Earlier, the strategist said 'anybody that questions the 'absolute, unquestionable' benefits of transgender surgery is gonna be called this equivalent of being against civil rights or being against women having the right to vote.
