Hammond Central High School students rally outside City Hall Friday afternoon in opposition to impending school closures and staff cuts.
Chants of “Save Our Teachers” were audible and supportive honks from passing traffic were met by cheers from the assembled students. In addition, the school board approved the layoffs of 173 employees at Tuesday’s school board meeting. “We support our students with their expression of free speech today and they will not receive a consequence for a peaceful protest.”

Two Senn High School Students Wounded in Shooting Off School GroundsTwo students from Senn High School in Chicago were injured in a shooting that took place off school grounds.
