As IKEA’s first Artist in Residence, Annie Leibovitz is traveling the world and creating images of what life at home looks like for a global roster of subjects.
Our homes are so much more than a container for our belongings—they are often sanctuaries, a place where we can feel free to be our most authentic selves. Away from the world's stressors beyond our front door, our homes serve as refuges uniquely tailored to our distinct cultures, necessities, and personal preferences.
Plunkett, who had her son while still a student, always dreamed of having her own home. “The process of finding, buying, and starting a new home is not represented anywhere. The costs, the affordability, the variables—it was genuinely crazy,” she says of the ongoing process. After considering everything from moving into a former chapel to a shipping container, Plunkett found the home of her dreams, but the house required some serious renovations.
Yusuke Onimaru’s work, heritage, and home are all intricately intertwined. As a third-generation ceramic artist from Toho Village, Fukuoka, Onimaru carries a long tradition of preserving heritage while creating new and beautiful objects through Takatori pottery, where Onimaru has worked for three decades. His connection to the history of Toho Village is far from abstract—rather, it’s a feeling that Onimaru carries with him on a daily basis.
