Group helps husbands of Alzheimer's patients
A support group is helping husbands of Alzheimer's patients in Greenville, South Carolina. Diana Jahries, a memory health social worker at Prisma Health's Center for Success in Aging, started the group after the pandemic for men to share their experiences and advice in what can be a very isolating journey. 'It kind of came about organically with two husbands that were in my pre-COVID support group,' Jahries said.
Some of these people are in the same spot I'm in. Some of them have actually already completed the whole process, and they're just dealing with the aftermath of it,' Springfield said. 'I knew that basically the answers I needed were in that room, and the answers to questions I didn't even know I had were in that room, too.'Jahries said that she's been pleasantly surprised by how open and honest the men in the group have been in sharing their experiences.
