Rochester, N.Y. The local community is mourning the loss of a trailblazing educator.
FILE - Monroe Community College hosted a 100th birthday celebration Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, for founding Trustee Alice Holloway Young . Alice Holloway Young has died, according to the City of Rochester . She was 100 years old.She joined MCC 's board upon its founding in 1961 and helped shape the direction of the school over the past six decades.
Holloway Young is also credited as one of the first to believe in the benefit of a community college in the Rochester area — breaking barriers and transforming access to education."Young was a true pioneer whose courage, love, and commitment to provide an outstanding education for all Rochesterians has left an everlasting impact on our community," said Rochester Mayor Malik Evans said in a statement released Monday.
