PETALING JAYA: The Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Ministry is doing the best it can to tackle the haze that has affected air quality in the country.

Its minister Yeo Bee Yin said relevant agencies are working around-the-clock to manage the situation, including controlling local hotspots and conducting cloud-seeding exercises.

Yeo said this in a series of tweets with nine points in response to lawyer and human rights activist Ambiga Sreenevasan, who had said that the government was slow in alleviating the haze situation. “The root of the prolonged haze are the hotspots in Indonesia that's not easy to put out because it involves peat fire . We have also offered help to Indonesia through my letter to the Environment Minister and embassy,” she said.

She included a link to the Asean Specialised Meteorological Centre that showed the number of hotspots in Kalimantan and Sumatra far outnumber those in Malaysia.
