The Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE is now in Malaysia, starting at RM1,199. It has some upgrades over the Mi 11 Lite, such as a better processor and 5G support.

. However, there was actually another smartphone announced at the event too that perhaps didn’t garner the same amount of attention—the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE.

The Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE is kinda like a refresh of the earlier Mi 11 Lite, with the ‘NE’ moniker meaning New Edition. You’ll find the biggest difference under the hood, as while the Mi 11 Lite had a Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G system-on-chip, the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE has a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G. This gets mated to either 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. As usual, it comes with MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 out of the box.

As for the display, you still get a 6.55-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display that’s capable of a 90Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The screen comes with support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision and covers 100% of the sRGB colour gamut. It’s able to produce up to 800nits of brightness and the whole front comes with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection against scratches over it.

The top left on the screen has a small punch hole cutout for a 20MP selfie camera, compared to the 16MP front camera on the original Mi 11 Lite. Meanwhile, the rear of the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE has a triple camera setup, with a main 64MP shooter, an 8MP ultrawide angle camera and a 5MP telemacro lens too. You’ll be able to shoot at up to 4K at 30fps, and features Xiaomi’s AI SkyScaping for photography and a one-click AI cinema function for video recording.

Other features include a 4,250mAh battery that Xiaomi rates for up to 104 hours of video playback, or 16 hours of music and comes with 33W fast charging via USB-C. There’s also a side-mounted fingerprint sensor as well as expandable storage via microSD. There’s unfortunately no 3.5mm audio jack, but the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE does have stereo speakers. It has support for 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC too; while the Mi 11 Lite had NFC, it was limited to 4G LTE, WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1.
