KOTA KINABALU: Two suspected burglars almost managed to flee a police roadblock when one of them lost control of the motorcycle they were riding and crashed into a drain in the Tawau district.

The men, aged 33 and 42, were travelling to the town centre from the Merotai area when they ran into the traffic operation right in front of a police station on Jalan Bombalai

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the pair quickly made a U-turn and sped off the other way but the rider lost control of the motorcycle. "As a result, they crashed on the left side of the road before plunging into a drain," he said when contacted on Saturday . The policemen on duty ran over to the suspects, who put up a struggle before they were eventually restrained, he said.

"A check found that they were in possession of two bags filled with various items including wrenches and pliers that we suspect were used by them to break into houses," he said.Article type: free
