US actor found guilty in staged racist hate crime case theSun theSundaily racist staged crime

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - DECEMBER 08: Former"Empire" actor Jussie Smollett leaves the Leighton Criminal Courts Building as the jury begins deliberation during his trial on December 8, 2021 in Chicago, Illinois. Smollett is accused of lying to police when he reported that two masked men physically attacked him, yelling racist and anti-gay remarks near his Chicago home in 2019.

“The jury in the case of Jussie Smollett have found Mr Smollett guilty of five of six counts of disorderly conduct,“ Cook County Circuit Court spokeswoman Mary Wisniewski said in a statement to reporters. The case took a strange turn when Cook County prosecutors dropped the initial 16 felony counts against him in March 2019.

“There was no hoax,“ the 39-year-old said while on the stand during the trial, local media reported. He denied having spoken about a staged attack at any time with his alleged accomplices.
