Umno slams EC over clash of Tanjung Piai by-election, AGM dates

PETALING JAYA: Umno has accused the Election Commission of deliberately fixing the date of the Tanjung Piai by-election on Nov 16 so that it clashes with the party’s annual general meeting which will be held between Nov 13 and 16.“They hope this way, it will greatly disadvantage Umno. Indirectly the EC is trying to help PH especially PPBM retain the Tanjung Piai seat,” he said.

Annuar said Umno will discuss the matter, adding that it will not allow an easy victory for the ruling coalition. He said Umno is determined to defeat PH in its territories, especially Tanjung Piai, where the coalition narrowly won in the last general election.EC has fixed pollingd day on Nov 16, with nomination day on Nov 2, giving parties a two-week campaign period.
