KOTA TINGGI: A two-year-old toddler was killed while her mother was badly injured in an accident at KM4, Jalan Mawai-Kuala Sedeli here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said that the incident occurred at 11.55am on Thursday after a motorcycle ridden by the 21-year-old mother and her daughter was hit from behind by a lorry.

"The victims were heading from Kuala Sedeli towards Mawai when they were run over by a lorry from behind. The lorry was driven by a 21-year-old man who was with a 25-year-old male passenger," he said in a statement.The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

The Act carries imprisonment for five to 10 years with a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000 with the driver licence revoked for no less than five years. "We would like to remind the public to always be alert of their surroundings when driving on the road and drive according to the laws and regulations that have been imposed to ensure the safety of all road users," he added.
