PETALING JAYA: Two policemen have been detained for allegedly extorting money from a man who was on his way to work.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the 27-year-old man was stopped by a police patrol car at about 11.30pm on Thursday ."The complainant alleged that the policemen told them they had violated Covid-19 standard operating procedures by having passengers and could be issued RM2,000 compound notices," he said when contacted on Friday .

He said the policemen then told the man to call his employer, with whom they subsequently had a conversation."He then posted his misgivings about the incident on social media," he added. ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin the policemen, with the rank of lans koperal and koperal, were detained at about 2.45am on Friday."Both policemen will be remanded," he said.

ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said police will not compromise in taking action against anyone on the force who breaks the law. "We urge the public to lodge reports if any police personnel or officers are involved in wrongdoings," he added.
