Job agency consulting director Julian Tan said many maid agencies had closed due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.“But with the borders still closed due to the pandemic, domestic help is hard to come by.Tan said he knew of places in Penang that used to house maid agencies but have since been put up for sale.
“The agencies cannot survive as there has been no income for quite awhile. Their only means of business is dealing with foreign maids. “We hope the authorities will expedite talks with their foreign counterparts to allow us to bring in the domestic helpers,” he said.
