PETALING JAYA: Tighter Covid-19 screenings will be implemented at all public transport terminals, stations and service counters beginning Friday (Oct 2), says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

"Beginning Oct 2, all terminal and station operators including public transport service counters will have to implement Covid-19 preventive measures, including stricter health screenings," he said in a statement on Thursday .

He said this included enforcement of the standard operating procedures set by the National Security Council, such as cleaning and disinfecting, physical social distancing and the use of face masks. He said the regulations would be enforced without compromise in the interests of the public, including commuters and personnel involved in the public transportation sector."As many as 260 positive Covid-19 cases were reported today and the three-digit rise is something that is worrying for all," Dr Wee said, adding that no one wanted a movement control order .

He reminded the public to adhere to the Covid-19 preventive measures, avoid crowded places and to seek immediate medical attention if showing symptoms of infection.Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that there were 260 news Covid-19 cases in the country, the highest increase since the recovery MCO phase began on June 9.
