BANGKOK: Lee Zii Jia crushed Kento Momota to hand Malaysia the first point in the Group D tie against Japan at the Impact Arena here on Wednesday .

Zii Jia took 46 minutes to beat Momota 21-17, 21-8 in a one-sided match to continue his winning trend against the two-time world champion. The world No. 6 also defeated Momota in the quarter-finals of the All-England in March. "I've played against Momota many times but this time, he wasn't at his best. I'm glad, I got the first point for my team," said the 24-year-old Zii Jia.

In the second match, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani defeated Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi in straight sets with a 21-19, 21-16 score.
