PETALING JAYA: The AFF Suzuki Cup will not take place this year and will be postponed to 2021.

This was confirmed by the Asean Football Federation after the regional body announced that the 2020 tournament would be postponed to 2021 given the rapidly-deteriorating Covid-19 situation regionally and globally.

AFF said the health and safety of the players, coaches, partners, fans and the public were of the highest priority, and the decision to postpone the tournament to 2021 would safeguard the well-being of everyone involved. The tournament is the largest and most prestigious football tournament in South East Asia and was set to see the national 'A' teams of the region competing for the cup, played in a home and away format.

In the last edition, which was held in 2018, Malaysia finished runners-up after losing to Vietnam 2-1 in a two-legged final.
