The Nintendo Switch Pro was alleged in development but got cancelled at some point | TechNave

For the longest time, the Nintendo Switch Pro was a hot topic during the pandemic but never came to fruition. The Switch OLED got released last year instead, and we have reasons to believe that the pro variant is probably never going to happen.

Back in September this year, an alleged new chipset that was rumoured to be used for Switch Pro was confirmed by an NVIDIA employee. However, Digital Foundry, a YouTube gaming channel that focuses on gaming technology and hardware reviews, has claimed that Nintendo did actually plan a Switch Pro but got scrapped in the end.

The claim was confirmed by more than one anonymous developer in their latest YouTube video. On top of that, Digital Foundry thinks that Nintendo doesn't seem comfortable in moving on to the next-gen gaming console. Given Nintendo's history, the gaming company had its hits and misses with the Wii and Wii U. It's also true that Nintendo isn't interested in Ray Tracing like Sony and Microsoft today.

With this, we think the Switch Pro is unlikely to appear in 2023 at all. So for those who are waiting, you might as well just get yourself the current Switch or Switch OLED for the holiday season. Alternatively, the Steam Deck is also a good choice albeit it's much more expensive without any local warranty on Shopee.
