WASHINGTON: Pakar Penyakit Berjangkit Amerika Syarikat , Anthony Fauci menjelaskan masih terlalu awal untuk menentukan sama ada varian Covid-19 Omicron akan menyebabkan penyakit berbahaya.
Jelasnya, AS belum merekodkan sebarang kes jangkitan varian itu walaupun terdapat 226 kes varian tersebut di 20 negara lain. Ketakutan mengenai penularan varian itu mengganggu pasaran kewangan dan mencetuskan kebimbangan terhadap kekuatan proses pemulihan ekonomi global ketika negara berusaha membendung pandemik Covid-19.
Namun, keraguan mengenai vaksin dalam kalangan penduduk AS menggagalkan usaha mengekang penyebaran virus itu.
