The government must improve online learning to allow for better two-day communication between teachers and students, says a senior lecturer in education.

He said this was especially needed since schools would most probably only reopen in September, when the nation transitions into Phase 3 of the national recovery plan. After going through several periods of home-based learning since last year, Anuar said, the education ministry should have looked at what improvements could be made this time around to ensure lessons were as effective.

Meanwhile, parents admitted that this round of online learning might not be as effective as previously, especially since some are too busy to sit in to monitor their children. Housewife Hatina Shuib was in a predicament similar to many other Malaysian parents, with a lack of available devices making online learning a hassle for her two children.

change some parents’ attitude for taking online classes for granted

The best solution would be to already include e-learning modules inside education curriculum even after this pandemic. Exp. : 1. All assignments/ homework to be submitted online. 2. Certain test to be done online with relevant content modules.

The first change needed is to stop treating online classes like face to face.
