“Besides a shortage of option teachers there may be other factors such as environment, lack of motivation as students are not required to pass the subject in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination and so forth. He said this was to review their level of English proficiency, in line with the requirements set out in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025.
Aminuddin said the English Language Education Reform Plan in Malaysia: The Roadmap 2015-2025 did not state the need for teachers to sit for MUET, other than the CEFR.

I've worked as a teacher and I remember being a student in government school. There is a whole culture of shunning good English. When you speak it, people ask why you 'speaking sangat?' and act as if you're trying to show off, so kids become embarrassed of speaking English.
Years of second rate English. Belittled English. Hammered English. Bigotry towards English n major hangups towards d English from certain people 4 years n years has left our poor kids 2 suffer. Dey should be ahead of our neighbouring countries in English. So sad!
