KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is facing criminal charges involving the misappropriation of RM42mil in SRC International Sdn Bhd funds, should not be convicted based on the court of public opinion, the High Court heard.

Lawyer Farhan Read, one of the lawyers in Najib's defence team, said on Tuesday that it was understandable that the public would be angry over the case as the charges levelled against the Pekan MP were serious allegations."But this court today should not be influenced by opinion. It should decide based on law and facts, ” Farhan added in his closing submissions.

Najib faces seven charges — three for criminal breach of trust, one for abuse of power and three for money laundering involving SRC International funds totalling RM42mil. The three-day hearing of submissions started on Monday and continues this afternoon before Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.

Forget all the fuss. Just free him and habis cerita la....Malaysia jurisdiction system always not fair and transparent punya la

Current PM indebted to ex-PM in making him PM

In this case, the rule is guilty until proven innocent & bringing the innocent to trial would be unfair. By all accounts, NajibRazak is guilty as charged. Why bother proving him innocent? MalaysianJustice trustnoone

Malaysia cannot be trusted unless it is convicted.

Why put SRC under MOF Inc if Najib wanted to plunder, poses Najib's defenceThe move does not reflect the intentions of someone who wanted to steal public funds, says counsel Farhan Read. It doesn't take a donkey to figure out that Najib was the Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) board of advisers chairman... so the issue whether SRC was under MOF or anything else is irrelevant. So that he as the PM then could consult the FM then?
