By Julia Chan Thursday, 19 May 2022 7:59 PM MYT KOTA KINABALU, May 19 — Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Yusof Yaacob said he has applied to join a Barisan Nasional party, believed to be Umno, some seven months after leaving Parti Warisan. The former state education minister said he has not been officially accepted, however, when met at the state Barisan Nasional Hari Raya celebration here today.Ahmad Maslan was reported saying by Utusan Malaysia that the party sent the amendment at 2pm yesterday and is confident that the amendment to postpone its party election would go through.“I’ve mentioned I support GRS and the prime minister.I've made a decision, but it's not announced yet,” he said.I hope the RoS will not take long because the amendment is similar to MCA’s constitution.“I’ve the intention to join BN, I filled out the form, so I’m just waiting now,” he said."We are certain that he can represent Malaysia well to the Indonesian government," he added.

When asked for an immediate reaction, Sabah BN chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin said the application has been provisionally accepted. On Sunday, Umno approved amendments to the party constitution in an extraordinary general meeting to allow internal polls to be delayed six months.“I’ve asked him many times to join.We will inform you in one to two days, but we agree in principle,” said Bung.16, which allowed the party leadership to delay scheduled elections by up to 18 months, this time further delaying the polls by up to six months after a general election.Yusof had been with Umno since 1995 but contested in the 2018 general election under a Parti Warisan ticket and won.He won his Sindumin seat again in the 2020 snap polls, but just over a year later announced he was quitting the party to become an independent but supporting the ruling coalition. In addition, party elections must be held within six months after the general election, or after 36 months from the previous party election, whichever is later, as well as with respect to the quorum of the meeting, once amended, the party constitution stipulates that any adjourned meeting must have a minimum quorum of seven persons.
