SIBU: Police have foiled an attempt to smuggle 80 logs worth RM48,750 at the Rajang River on Tuesday (March 2).

Region 5 marine police chief Asst Comm Shamsol Kassim said four officers were at the riverbank in Pulau Kerto and found a raft of timber logs of various sizes at about noon for an operation.

"The logs were illegal as there were no stamps from the Sarawak Forestry Department on them. After waiting for one hour and nobody showed up to claim them, the officers seized the logs," he said.
