Tokyo Polis Jepun secara rasmi menahan lelaki disyaki melakukan kebakaran di studio animasi terkemuka Kyoto hingga mengorbankan 36 orang, tahun lalu.

"Kita menahan Shinji Aoba, 42, hari ini kerana disyaki membunuh 36 orang menerusi kebakaran di studio animasi," katanya.

Penahanan itu dibuat selepas 10 bulan serangan berkenaan yang turut mencederakan ribuan orang termasuk Aoba sendiri.Dia juga tidak sedarkan diri selama beberapa minggu ketika dirawat di hospital di Kyoto.Polis memaklumkan menyedia kemudahan perubatan dan rawatan di balai yang akan menempatkan Aoba. Ketika serangan pada Julai 2019, Aoba dilapor menyebut 'mati' sebelum menyalakan api pada cecair mudah terbakar yang dituang di keliling bangunan.

Polis mengeluarkan waran tangkap ke atas Aoba sejurus insiden tetapi gagal meneruskan pendakwaan kerana dia cedera parah.
