TAIWANESE singer Selina Jen (pic) is set to release a new single soon, signalling her renewed self-confidence after going through a bad patch.

The 38-year-old singer was reported to have gone off-pitch during recent performances, Sin Chew Daily reported.

One of the incidents happened in June during the Golden Melody Awards in Taipei, where she sang along with Ella Chen and Hebe Tien, her fellow members of the girl band S.H.E.Doctors, nutritionists and vocal coaches could not find anything wrong with her throat or voice. This led Jen to conclude that she could be facing a mental block, which prompted her to seek help from a therapist. Her manager had said that the singer might have lost her voice due to the stress of the divorce.> Dong Zong’s Kedah chapter chairman Zhuang Jun Long has pointed out that four Chinese schools in Kedah had a student enrolment of more than 90% non-Chinese, Sin Chew Daily reported.

The educationist group has been asking the government to allow the board of directors of Chinese schools to decide on the teaching of the Jawi script. Otherwise, Zhuang said the parent-teacher associations could find it hard to explain the decision to not implement the Jawi script to these non-Chinese parents.Earlier this year, the ministry announced the introduction of Jawi calligraphy in the Bahasa Melayu subject for Year Four students beginning next year.
