KUALA LUMPUR: Umno supreme council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz will leave it to the party leadership to decide if he should contest in the Selangor state polls.

He said whether he is a candidate in the upcoming election will depend on what the party has planned.

Asked about former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin’s view that he should contest, Tengku Zafrul answered: “That’s Khairy’s personal views, but for me, this all depends on the party.”Khairy in his podcast, “Keluar Sekejap”, said that Tengku Zafrul, who is the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, should contest in the upcoming polls.

Khairy was also of the opinion that Tengku Zafrul should be appointed as Selangor Mentri Besar if he wins the election. The sacked Umno member said that Tengku Zafrul had yet to win in any election and therefore should contest and win in order for him to continue his political journey. Tengku Zafrul, who is Kota Raja Umno chief, had contested in Kuala Selangor in the 15th General Election, but lost to the incumbent Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad of Pakatan Harapan.
