“The ministry of finance has deposited 937.5 million Saudi riyals into the central bank of Sudan,” it said in a statement. “US$500 million has been provided by both countries … to strengthen its financial position,” the kingdom’s finance ministry said. The oil-rich Gulf states pledged to inject US$500 million into Sudan’s central bank and US$2.5 billion to help provide food, medicine and petroleum products, the official Saudi Press Agency said last month.
Both Gulf nations have voiced backing for Sudan’s military rulers, who are facing calls from protesters to cede power to a civilian transitional government.
