State Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said her ministry was waiting for further details about the proposed department announced by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri recently."We will definitely support whatever is good and will benefit Sarawak. Where needed we will give our input," she told reporters after visiting a soup kitchen at the Community Social Support Centre here on Wednesday .
On Dec 29, Nancy said the Cabinet had agreed in principle to set up a department or institution to look after the welfare and interests of children. Meanwhile, Fatimah said support for neglected or abused children was among the services provided at CSSC, which is run by her ministry in collaboration with several non-governmental organisations ."We have NGOs that provide support related to women and children's issues.
"This is also a first-stop referral centre for intervention for social issues, including drug abuse and mental health matters," she said. On the soup kitchen, Fatimah said it was run by Society for Kuching Urban Poor to provide free meals to the poor in the city."They provide breakfast and lunch for those who need it. This is one of the many services we provide at CSSC to address social issues and support the poor and disadvantaged in the city," she said.
