MBPP has removed fallen trees and cleaned up the jogging tracks and hiking trails at the City Park.

Penang youth and sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the paths and steps at the City Park had become slippery as they were covered in moss and became dangerous to the public.

“When visiting the City Park, we noticed the slippery paths and steps covered in algae-like growths were detrimental to the safety of people.“There were fallen trees along the trails as well,” he said in a statement on Saturday.“We visited the park after the clean-up and it is now safer for the public.

“The state government and local council remain committed to ensuring hikers can hike along the trail safely,” he added.Yew said the MBPP staff cleaned the trails each time they reopened to the public.“This resulted in some fallen trees and twigs along the hiking trails. “They used chainsaws and other cleaning equipment to clear up the obstacles along the hiking trails, which will ensure the safety of hikers,” he said.
