KUALA LUMPUR: Presiden UMNO, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi di sini menegaskan RM6 juta yang diterima melalui dua keping cek daripada Sarana Kencana Sdn. Bhd. bukan rasuah atau upah kerana melantik syarikat itu untuk membekalkan cip pasport.
“Datuk Abu Hanifah dan Chew Ben Ben telah mengesahkan bahawa sumbangan politik adalah merangkumi amal jariah yang akan disumbangkan kepada Yayasan Akalbudi,” kata Ahmad Zahid ketika membaca penyataan saksinya. Beliau berkata demikian dengan memetik keterangan Abu Hanifah dan Ben Ben ketika yang diberikan sebelum ini.
Selain itu, Ahmad Zahid menyatakan beliau tidak mempunyai kuasa untuk membuat keputusan akhir dalam memuktamadkan sesuatu kontrak yang diberikan secara rundingan terus kerana ia berada di bawah bidang kuasa Kementerian Kewangan. Ahmad Zaidi: Datuk Seri, sekiranya Datuk Seri menulis ‘Sila beri kelulusan bagi permohonan ini’, adakah Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Dalam Negeri mempunyai kuasa untuk tidak mengikut arahan tersebut.
