Retail associations plead for businesses in Selangor to be allowed to open

Retail associations in the country have urged Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari consider implementing targeted lockdowns instead a blanket one that is hurting the state’s economy unnecessarily. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, July 10, 2021.

THERE is no basis to shut down malls and standalone shops in Selangor as there is a low incidence of Covid-19 cases in such premises, retail associations said. President of the Malaysian Shopping Malls Association Teo Chiang Kok said this is tantamount to punishing those who diligently abide by the standard operating procedure instead of encouraging and rewarding them.
