KOTA KINABALU: The public should not take measures to protect themselves against Covid-19 in Sabah lightly as the more virulent Delta variant has been detected spreading in the community.

With Sabah continuing to see an average of around 2,500 to 3,000 daily cases with deaths peaking on some days to over 40, health experts urged the public to play their part and strictly observe SOPs to control the spread of the virus especially in the city and its surrounding areas.

"The presence of Delta is of major concern and our previous projections of 2,500 to 3,000 average cases before turning around by October did not take it into account. "What is important is that people double mask, strictly adhere to SOPs and not go out unnecessarily. It is in their hands to ensure they are safe," he added.

"Another problem is in multiple families living under one roof, if one gets infected they could not just infect others within their household, but also create new work clusters at different work places," he added.
