SEREMBAN: The High Court here has acquitted and discharged a police ASP and four others over the murder of a 35-year-old man in 2015 without calling for their defence.

Judicial Commissioner Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin said the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against the accused.

ASP S. Selva Kumar, 42; as well as N. Sureshkannah, 39; N. Thanabalan, 32; R. Veeramuthu, 53; and N. Rajasakanan, 40, were charged with the murder of S. Mohanadas in February 2015. All five allegedly committed the offence between 9pm on Feb 11, 2015 and 6am the following day at a garbage disposal area along Jalan Labu.ASP Selva, suspended from duty, was represented by Datuk KL Shee; Sureshkannah and Thanabalan by Haresh Mahadevan; while Paul Seladurai appeared for the other two.Wan Shahruddin said the prosecution would be appealing the decision.
