Plea to government: Allow NGOs to deliver food and other necessities

LETTER | We the undersigned civil society organisations and non-governmental organisations view with grave concern the announcement by Defence Minister Ismail Sabri concerning how NGOs will now no longer be allowed to deliver food to vulnerable communities.

At the same time, we are concerned that there is a lack of appreciation as to just how many vulnerable communities are affected by the Movement Control Order, and are having difficulties accessing basic necessities such as food. It is hard to imagine that the government has a complete list of all the vulnerable communities that need assistance, and will be able to take over serving all these communities immediately.

NGOs do not exist to supersede the work of the government, or to put the government in bad light in any way. The concept of #KitaJagaKita is not meant to imply any failure on the part of the government - it only emphasises the fact that the crisis is so bad, that all of us have a duty to care for one another.

The health risks are high. Necessary precautions must be taken into account before doing the commendable gesture.

Coordinate la pakcik ismail uii. Everything can be done safely and carefully. Gov cannot do this alone.

Look at the type of despotic fascists the Agong has appointed as PM and Goverment for Malaysians. These fascists don't even want to allow Malaysians to help Malaysians in times of a disaster.

Some NGOs hv alrdy pared down operations to regular volunteers & take xtra precautions to obey MCO. NGOs alrdy have contact & logistics; LEVERAGE THIS instead of re-inventing wheel w/ RELA & army. Amidst confusion, food will spoil, while vulnerable ppl who need it go hungry.

Wow, En Ismail, you are ready to take over all the work these NGO's are doing? I thought even the PM in his speech asked the NGO's to help out in this crisis?
