What was likely to take a few weeks took the team just five days each time to administer 6,096 doses (first and second) to workers of 18 oil palm plantations and two sawmills in Sibu, Selangau and Mukah.

What was likely to take a few weeks took the team led by Pansar Holdings Bhd just five days each time to administer 6,096 doses to workers of 18 oil palm plantations and two sawmills in Sibu, Selangau and Mukah.

Its managing director Datuk Jason Tai, who is also a Pemanca , said there were several challenges in carrying out the programme using a bus.“Even the nearest one in Teku took us several hours to get to the people waiting to be vaccinated,” he said at the closing of an industrial vaccination centre at the University College of Technology Sarawak in Sibu. The other challenge was ensuring the vaccines stayed in good condition over the trip, said Tai.

Tai said his team initially deliberated on using a single-dose vaccine such as CanSino because of the plantations’ remoteness. As the vaccine was not available yet, they went ahead with double-dose vaccines as advised by the Sarawak Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force.“On the first day after setting up the facilities, they worked until 1am the next day.Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said the PPV would be reactivated if booster shots were needed.
