PAS urges Penang govt to cancel reclamation project after EIA approval revoked

GEORGE TOWN, Sept 10 — Penang PAS has urged the state government to scrap the Penang South Reclamation project following the revocation of the Environmental Impact Assessment approval for the project.

“For the sake of the sustainability of the ecosystem and protecting the source of income for the fishing community, the Penang government must quickly cancel the project,” he said in a statement here today. Last Wednesday, three members of the Department of Environment Appeals Board led by Sessions Court judge Rozina Ayob set aside the EIA approval for the project. Two other members of the board are Prof Datuk Mazlin Mokhtar and Associate Professor Ramdzani Abdullah.
