PETALING JAYA: All Parliament Select Committee proceedings, including the upcoming Wednesday (Jan 19) meeting to discuss the share ownership of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Tan Sri Azam Baki will not be open to the public due to Parliamentary standing orders, says Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun.

Rakyat deserved to know the truth... REMEMBER this...all these MPs are voted by Rakyat. Speaker must know that...that's why the house was called...DEWAN RAKYAT. EVERY BUSINESS IN PARLIAMENT HOUSE IS FOR THE ENTIRE 32M RAKYAT... Do the Speaker understand his duty... Why not? Of coz...🤣🤣 No handphones. Strip search. Body Xray. Shave bald. Attire provided.

Untunglah Nonsense as Usual..what do you expect from a lapdog! SpeakerBangsat They earned their salary through rakyat..rakyat is paying taxes..n rakyat must know what's going on Ya because the public has only the right to know what is being told.

Is parliament a secret society meeting ? Art harun be transparent on PSC proceeding on Azam baki as you are there as speaker for the peoples . In UK for just having a party all hell broke loose. PM had to apologize. Here no matter how big the issue is, nothing... Kecut! C'mon ArtHarun; make it open to the public. We'd like to know what kind of shenanigans AzamBaki has done SPRMMalaysia TrustNoOne

Not sure why I used to have respect for him. Now I am sure. So what is for the public to know Public only needed for their votes” Another apa malu u$ele$$ 🤡🤑🦧 First of all please think who are the people in the parliament? Isn't all of them represent the public? If public didn't select them can they be in parliament? Please bare in mind that parliament is there because of public if not there won't be parliament representatives. MGBA

Great, hide how much you'll can but end of the day truth anyhow will be out and nothing can stop it. If AB & Speaker not afraid of the proceedings, then it should be live telecast. Look at US, Europe & all developed countries. It appears the Speaker is more worried than AB! Remember your salaries are paid by public!!

So what is the use of the committee if they are not sharing to public Transparency come with term and condition..😂 Kindly explain this BS? With this speaker he will try to sweep everything under the carpet What's new? Hide everything from the rakyat another case under the carpet all settle. Perhaps there should be some transparency about the lack of transparency?

What a joke!!!! Semoga sempat bertaubat sebelum dijemput ajal 😂😂😂 Are they not paid by the public funds and the tax payer’s money?

Huh 🤔 smart ass . We need transparency go n learn from spore He had just drop the guilty sentence on the poor lad… Then there is no transparency and can still subject to sweeping things under the carpet They're gonna sweep this one under the rug huh Why not if there is nothing to hide! From lap dog to guard dog.

The Dewan Rakyat Speaker said that all proceedings of the Special Select Committee and other committees are subject to the provisions of standing orders. "Standing orders don't allow open proceedings. "In fact, standing order disallows discussion or even disclosure of witnesses, witness statements and contents of the proceedings until a report has been presented to the Dewan," he told The Star on Sunday (Jan 16). Azhar said that this would preserve the integrity of such proceedings. "This is also to ensure complete cooperation from everyone involved," said Azhar. Dr Edmund Terence Gomez, who resigned from the MACC’s Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel last month, had urged the Wednesday proceeding of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee for Agencies under the Prime Minister's Department to be open to the public and media. Gomez stressed that it was important to ensure that there was no attempt to cover up. "While it's good to have the PSC, I would also like to argue that the PSC must be open to the media and the public. It is important that the media is also privy to the discussions in PSC," he said. Azam is expected to be questioned by the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) for Agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department on his involvement in the share trading controversy next week. According to PSC committee member and Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin, Azam has been notified and is to appear before the nine-member committee on Jan 19. The meeting will be held at 2pm in Parliament. As part of the eight new select committees, the select committee for agencies was announced in August 2018 by former speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof in order to monitor key government ministries and issues. Select committees have the prerogative to summon witnesses. Previously held hearings scrutinise how Putrajaya spent taxpayers’ money. Article type: metered
