Many professional footballers around the world earn little more than an average income and cannot afford to have their wages cut during the Covid-19 crisis, the global players union FIFPRO told Reuters Television on Friday.

Former JDT coach Bojan Hodak said players who earn low wages should not be subjected to salary reduction as they are already struggling to put food on their tables.“Juventus has a completely different outlook to the teams in the 17th, 18th or 19th places,” he said. “We have a concern that in some parts of the world many clubs are already turning to unilateral decisions in terms of lay-offs and wage cuts on terms that players simply cannot afford,” he said.
