Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow denies news report that the government has given the nod for the controversial venture. FMTNews Penang BayanLepas EIA

The proposed three reclaimed islands, covering an area of 17 sq km, will be reclaimed off the coast of Permatang Damar Laut, near Bayan Lepas.

The report also claimed that as a result of the reclamation project, “more than 900 fishermen” will be compensated with low-cost houses. He said The Star’s report contained factual errors and “reckless assumptions” as the details of the project are still being worked out. These would be shared with the press and stakeholders once ready, he added.

Chow had said under town planning laws, NPPC was merely obliged to give “advice” to states which want to embark on certain large-scale projects and not grant approvals to them per se.
