Kapit OCPD Deputy Supt Freddy Bian said Wednesday that the five were suspected of stealing fuel in Kapit bazaar and Bleteh since October.
"The modus operandi of the five youths, who are all school drop-outs, was to force open the motorcycle seat. They would then use a plastic hose to siphon the petrol from the tank into a 1.5l bottle," he said. Freddy said investigations revealed that the group mostly targeted motorcycles that were parked overnight in the town area by the owners"The thefts happened during the night and the group had been stealing up to four bottles a night," he said.
He said they would sell the petrol to their close friends for between RM2 to RM5 per bottle and would share the proceeds.The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
