Melaka and Negri Sembilan MMEA director Capt Iskandar Ishak said the drugs, worth about RM1.04mil, were left in a grey bag near the beach there and discovered by a patrol at about 10pm on Monday night."The bag was brought on board the patrol boat, where inspection revealed 26 yellow packages weighing about 1kg each containing tiny crystals," he told a press conference here on Wednesday .
The drugs are believed to have been procured within Malaysia to be smuggled out by a syndicate using land and sea trafficking routes. Capt Iskandar said based on intelligence gathered, the drugs were bound for a neighbouring country and were sufficient to supply 56,000 users. The case is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Members of the public are urged to channel information on any criminal activity or emergency at sea to the Melaka and Negri Sembilan Maritime Operations Centre at 06-3876730 or call the 999 line that is operational 24 hours a day. – Bernama
