IPOH: Operators of illegal clinics and pharmacies in Kuala Lumpur will be brought to book, says Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye.

The ministry, he added, has been receiving complaints about foreigners practising medicine illegally in the country.“The ministry has taken action against those involved sporadically,” he said after launching SJK Gunung Rapat’s annual sports day here yesterday.

Dr Lee was asked to comment on the report by The Star on Friday about shoplots in Jalan Silang, Kuala Lumpur, covertly operating as illegal clinics and pharmacies by “doctors” from Bangladesh. These “doctors” are said to dispense a range of modern and alternative medicines brought in from the South Asian country.

Dr Lee said medical practitioners in the country must be registered with the Malaysian Medical Council and have annual practising certificates.“We will gather evidence to ensure the unscrupulous individuals face the music,” he said.He said that in 2017, 15.6% of children aged between 10 and 17 were overweight while 14.8% were obese.Tags / Keywords:
