Imagine a hand-sized PC.

If space is tight on your desk and underneath it, then a large PC is not an option. You could consider a small laptop or all-in-one desktop computer, but there is a third and cheaper option – a mini PC.

Most mini PCs have soldered-in mobile processors, which are also used in notebooks and which consume up to 45 watts of power, Mantel says. Performance depends on several factors. The processor is, so to speak, the engine of the computer, says Christian van de Sand from German consumer goods tester Stiftung Warentest. But memory and the graphics unit are also important.

For normal tasks such as word processing or Internet surfing, that's generally enough, according to van de Sand. You should pay particular attention to what ports your potential mini PC has. Future-proof devices should have several USB-C ports, van de Sand says. All-in-one computers have the monitor built into the computer and so are space-saving. However, they cost a little more than a mini PC and a monitor.
