KUALA LUMPUR: Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia mengeluarkan enam kali amaran cuaca signifikan yang boleh mengakibatkan hujan lebat berterusan pada Disember lalu.
“Ini kerana andaiannya hanya negeri-negeri di Pantai Timur Semenanjung Malaysia yang terjejas akibat banjir dibawa hujan lebat berterusan ekoran luruan monsun. Jelasnya, angin monsun timur laut yang sepatutnya bertiup ke Laut Andaman telah melalui Selat Melaka ekoran sistem tekanan rendah di perairan tersebut.“Banjir di negeri Selangor yang bermula pada hari 18 Disember 2021 telah berlaku akibat daripada jumlah purata taburan hujan luar biasa iaitu 380 milimeter pada hari tersebut yang menyamai jumlah purata taburan hujan bagi tempoh sebulan. Pada masa yang sama, kejadian air pasang telah menyebabkan banjir ini bertambah lebih buruk,” katanya.
